Home-Schooling Myself

Even the very best formal education only builds a framework for what we can learn throughout the rest of our lives.  This is just as true for people who have doctorate degrees as it is for preschoolers, confirmation students, high school graduates and people taking post-secondary courses.

I can't take credit for this wisdom.  My mom is the one who taught me the importance and joy of life-long learning long before I'd lived all that much.  She began taking my brother and me to the library before we could even read for ourselves and filled out home with a wide variety of books and magazines.  I was a kid way back before the internet when a set of encyclopedias in the home saved me from certain doom on those occasions when I put off my homework until after the public library was closed for the night.

Some day, I might decide to pursue another formal degree.  But, for now, I'm enjoying home-schooling myself.  I love the freedom to get excited about a new topic and pour myself into researching it until I either find out all I want to know or get distracted by another new topic.

Right now, the topics I'm researching and pondering are faith development, family ministry and history of the Lutheran church.  I'd also like to figure out how to motivate myself to exercise more (distracted by children), eat better (distracted by chocolate) and somehow stay on top of my housework (distracted by the internet).  Speaking of which, I'd better quit blogging and go fold that pile of laundry I forgot about.

Welcome!

Welcome to my very first blog post -ever!

Each of us has the challenge and blessing of juggling many different roles and interests in life.  The roles that get most of my time and attention right now are: Christian, farm wife, stay-at-home mom, Christian education specialist and writer.  This blog will share thoughts, discoveries, helpful resources and helpful links related to these roles.
